Hey everyone,
I’ve been playing League of Legends for a while now and really enjoy maining support. I mostly play champions like Janna, Thresh, and Nautilus, depending on the team comp. The problem is, I feel stuck in low Elo (around Silver) and can’t seem to climb effectively.
I try to ward properly, roam when possible, and peel for my carries, but it feels like my impact is limited if my ADC isn’t doing well or the team doesn’t follow up on engages. I know blaming teammates isn’t productive, so I’m looking for ways to improve my own gameplay.
Are there specific strategies for supports to carry games in lower ranks?
Should I focus more on playmaking champs like Thresh or enchanters like Janna?
Any tips for making my roams and engages more impactful?
I’d love to hear from experienced support players or anyone who’s climbed out of low Elo as support. Thanks in advance for your help! 😊
A support trying to carry ❤️

November 24, 2024 at 6:37 pm #397Hey there!
First off, it’s awesome that you’re reflecting on your gameplay and looking for ways to improve—that’s already a huge step toward climbing! Here are some tips that might help you make a bigger impact as a support and break out of Silver Elo:
1. Pick Champions That Can Influence the Game More
While enchanters like Janna can be super strong in the right situations, playmaking supports (like Thresh, Nautilus, or Leona) often have a bigger impact in lower Elo. Their ability to engage, set up kills, and snowball lanes can turn games around. That said, if you’re more comfortable with enchanters, champions like Yuumi and Nami can also carry by keeping fed teammates alive and enabling hyper carries.
2. Roaming Is Your Best Friend
If your ADC is struggling or playing passively, look for opportunities to roam:- Mid Lane Ganks: Coordinate with your mid-laner to secure kills or burn summoner spells.
- Jungle Invades: Pair up with your jungler to help secure vision or punish enemies invading your jungle.
- Top Lane Roams: Less common but still effective, especially if your top-laner is playing a snowball champion like Darius or Jax.
Make sure you drop deep wards during roams to give your team better map awareness.
3. Focus on Macro Play- Vision Control: Master warding and de-warding. Always keep an eye on the state of the map and set up vision around objectives like Dragon and Baron.
- Objective Priority: Use your pings to guide your team toward Dragons, Rift Heralds, and Barons. Even if they don’t listen all the time, you’ll win games by consistently prioritizing objectives.
- Lane Swaps: If your ADC is doing poorly, consider leaving them to farm safely while you focus on other lanes. You can help turn a losing game around by snowballing stronger teammates.
4. Improve Communication
You don’t need to type paragraphs, but smart pings and concise chat can make a huge difference. For example:- Ping enemy summoners after they’re burned (e.g., “Mid no Flash”) to set up kills.
- Use the “On My Way” ping during roams to coordinate with your team.
- Highlight objectives when they’re spawning soon.
A little leadership can go a long way in lower Elo games.
5. Learn to Adapt to Your Team
In solo queue, sometimes your job as support shifts based on the situation:- Peel like crazy for your carry if they’re fed.
- Engage boldly if no one else on your team is stepping up.
- Sacrifice yourself to save a fed teammate or secure a critical objective.
6. Review Your Gameplay
If possible, watch replays of your games to identify mistakes. Ask yourself:- Were there times I could have roamed or warded better?
- Did I over-engage or play too passively?
- Was I tracking the enemy jungler effectively?
Sometimes small adjustments can make a huge difference.
You’ve got this! With patience and consistent improvement, you’ll climb in no time. Good luck!
